How to Apply for a Slaughterhouse License

This service allows slaughterhouse business operators to register and obtain an operating license from the Rwanda Inspectorate, Competition and Consumer Protection Authority (RICA). As part of the process, RICA conducts a field visit to confirm that the slaughterhouse premises comply with applicable standards and regulations.

Who is eligible to apply for this service?

Any individual or company operating a slaughterhouse in Rwanda may apply for this service, provided that they have a valid Tax Identification Number (TIN).

Requirements before applying

To proceed with your application, you will need:

  • An active OneStopCenter account. To create an account, click here.

  • A valid Tax Identification Number (TIN).

Required attachments

Prepare the following supporting documents:

  • Business Registration Certificate from RDB.

  • Copy of the lease agreement (if the operator is not the owner of the premises).

  • Notarized copies of the registration certificate and operational license from the Rwanda Council of Veterinary Doctors for the veterinarians of the abattoir.

  • Notarized copies of academic degrees of staff responsible for slaughterhouse operations (university degree in veterinary medicine or animal health for medium and large slaughterhouses; veterinary technicians for small slaughterhouses).

  • Letter of authorization for meat inspectors issued by RICA.

  • Copy of passport.

  • Copy of the operational license issued by RICA.

  • Copy of the slaughterhouse registration certificate issued by RICA.

Next Steps and support information

After successfully applying, you will receive an application number (c2…), which can be used to track the status of your application at any time.
